|Getting to Puerto Escondido by Land
From Acapulco (SE on HWY 200; 6 hours):
From Acapulco get on highway 200, which is a two lane highway that travels along the coast. Coming into Puerto Escondido you will pass the airport on your left. Continue on Hwy 200 until you get into town.
From Oaxaca (HWY 131; 8 hours):
Highway 131 is a long widey mountanous road, it is a two lane road that has several sheer cliff drop offs. Do not attempt this route at night. You can catch a shuttle bus or taxi if you do not want to drive this road yourself. If you get car sick I recommend that you take a flight because this route has turns the entire way and the locals like to drive fast. Stay on Highway 131 until you reach highway 200. Coming into Puerto Escondido you will pass the airport on your left. Continue on Hwy 200 until you get into town.
From Huatulco (NW on HWY 200; 2 hours):
From Huatulco get on highway 200, which is a two lane highway that travels along the coast. Coming into town you will see a blue sign for "Playa Zicatela" on your left this is the beginning of Puerto Escondido and the main town starts here.
Getting to Puerto Escondido by Bus
Bus transportation offers a inexpensive way to travel in Mexico. They generally run day and night. If you are able to sleep in fairly cramped surroundings, this is the way to go. Most cities in Mexico have a Primero Clase (First Class) bus station. They are comfortable and safe. Find first class Mexico bus information at Premara Plus or ADO GL.
From Mexico City - the buses leave from the southern Terminal. Inquire in the entrance hall at the desk that says "Costa Chica". You can also travel with ADO from their terminal at the Tapo (Metro San Lazaro, Line 1, two stations away from the airport).
